Mental health crisis in midlife – a proposed research agenda

There is a growing amount of evidence indicating increased levels psychological distress, suicide rates and decreased well-being in midlife (age 45-55). We refer to this phenomenon as the ‘midlife mental health crisis’. As there little empirical or theoretical grounds explain crisis, we propose research agenda. In order facilitate further research, consulted members public, professionals researchers on potential reasons for crisis. Subsequently, translated those into questions testable with British birth cohorts. series studies using three statistical modelling approaches: descriptive (what crisis?), predictive (who at risk experiencing crisis?) explanatory are processes leading crisis?).
